Astoria Current Boracay – Hotel Review

Staying in Astoria Current is one of the highlights of our recent Boracay trip. Skye enjoyed our stay so much that she told me she wants to come back when we haven’t checked out yet.

Astoria Current in Station 3 is owned and operated by the Astoria Group that owns several leisure properties in various places across the Philippines like Bohol, Palawan, and Boracay.

Astoria has 2 hotels in Boracay – the Astoria Boracay in Station 1 and the Astoria Current in Station 3. In this article, we will be reviewing Astoria Current.

Shall we start the hotel tour?

LOCATION

Hotel Current by Astoria is in Station 3, idly sitting right in front of the famous Boracay beach.

I personally prefer Station 3 as it is less crowded and has a bigger area to swim as compared to Station 1 and 2. Station 3, like the other 2 stations, also offers great places, fine restaurants, and various accommodation options. It’s maybe a bit far from the iconic Willy’s Rock but so what? You can still get to that point in minutes by foot.

HOW TO GET TO ASTORIA CURRENT

Many hotels/resorts in the island offer air-conditioned shuttle service from Jetty Port but, of course, this comes with a price. If you mind your budget, you can skip the shuttle service and simply hail a tricycle or commission a habalhabal (motorbike) to take you to your hotel. The travel time is approximately 10-15 minutes and costs around PhP100 to PhP150

If you want to save more, you can take tricycle ride for (local) passengers. The fare for that only costs PhP20. You will be dropped at the back entrance of Astoria Current which is just several steps away from the main road.

WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT ASTORIA CURRENT

SPACIOUS ROOM

The entrance to the room was through a large transparent glass only covered by thick block-out curtains. The avant-garde décor will impress you upon entry.

We were assigned two connecting rooms made with right sophistication that did not intimidate. The immense level of comfort can be felt as soon as we’re inside. The play with aesthetics by the designers was impressive. Every detail of the room was well-thought-of.

The ambience shifted from playful to elegantly classy upon entering the bathroom through the frosted glass door. Skye had to ask me what shall we do first – to swim in the pool, dip in the beach, or soak in the tub. Even our 3-year-old daughter was stricken with fun dilemmas, eh? I suddenly missed JimBry back home since I wanted him to experience this also with us.

Our room comes with the following:

• Safety deposit box
• LCD cable television
• DVD player
• Refrigerator
• Coffee/Tea maker
• Microwave
• Hairdryer
• Complimentary rubber slipper
• Cotton towels

What we love the most in our rooms were the attached bathrooms that came complete with bathtubs, complimentary toiletries, bidets, and bathrobes.

Other amenities include:

• Fitness center
• Massage services
• Laundry service
• Airport shuttle arrangements
• 24-hour medical assistance

Our rooms were so comfortable that it was difficult for us to leave them despite the luscious waves of the Boracay beach.

SWIMMING POOL

Astoria Current has two pool areas – fresh and salt water. Both are quite special and very luxurious with sunken sun loungers available. The freshwater pool near the banquet area features a glass side that made it stood out from the usual swimming pool. There are also 8 built-in aqua seats with jet-massage nozzles. Amazing!

The availability of the children’s pool made it so easy to have fun with kids, too! Since Skye is such a water baby, she very much enjoyed the place.

BUFFET BREAKFAST

Astoria Current’s breakfast buffet offers a variety of choices, and everything was delicious! There was the usual Filipino breakfast – tocino, tapa, dried fish paired with garlic rice – and continental breakfast – pancake, waffles, sausages, bread. They also have an omelette station where eggs were cooked according to someone’s preference. For the beverage, you can either have a cup of coffee or fresh juices. Dessert options came in abundance, too! Cakes, rice cakes, and fresh fruits are some of them.

The main restaurant (Parasol restaurant) where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served was very open. The refreshing ocean breeze can be felt blowing while dining. Inside the hotel area, there was also the Onyx bar lounge that served awesome smoothies along with cocktails and that cute ice cream booth.

STAFF & SERVICE

It is important to note that the staff and services of Astoria Current were very impressive. The pool attendants, cleaners, kitchen staff, nurses, and even doormen were all trained well to the highest standard of quality. They know what they are doing. Also, I loved the practice that I need not bring my wallet or credit card when going around the hotel premises as I can charge me orders to our room and just pay them upon check out.

To sum it all, Staying at Astoria Current made our Boracay trip more memorable and comfortable. From the time we checked in to the time we left, we had nothing but incredible experiences that lure us to come back anytime soon!
