Darwin Dimsum Hong Kong Special & Our Plate of Thoughts

Spread the love

Our little bub loves dimsum places as much as we love Japanese restaurants. She’s into noodles and congee. So last weekend, we made sure to drop by Darwin Dimsum Hong Kong Special, a restaurant in San Juan that serves cute dimsums such as Hello Kitty hakaw or custard bun, panda vegetable bun and Mickey Mouse radish cake.

Our orders, minus the congee

Their menu is simple. The only rice meals available are the Chicken & Sausage Rice (Php168) and Chicken Feet and Spare Ribs Rice (Php168) which were just “fine.” I honestly can say that these dishes offer nothing extraordinary and I found each bowl a little expensive for the quality. Anyhow, their dimsums really deliver. So if I can give an unsolicited advice, do not order their rice meals and just enjoy their house specials – dimsums!

Siao Long Bao (Php118) – The inside was bursting with flavorful soup! It would be better if they can make each piece a little bigger to compensate for the price. Php118 for 3 small pieces is expensive. Tasteful yes, but expensive.

Panda Vegetable Bun (Php128) – The little girl liked this one. The cute presentation got her attention but the delicious minced vegetables inside made her stay.

Century Egg Pork Congee (Php148) – Of all our orders, this plain-looking congee stood out. It looked colorless and bland  (that’s why I did not bother taking a photo of it) but lo and behold, it tasted really good! It was filled with lots of lean pork and century egg pieces – very satisfying. The big bowl of serving can also be shared by two people. The price and serving was worth it.

PRICE

Everything on the menu is in the Php100+ range. We personally think the prices are a bit on the high side.

SERVICE

Staff were attentive but lack initiative. They gave us just one menu to share when there were lots of spare menus on the tables. Also, it would be best if they offer water right away or ask their guests if they want anything to drink while waiting for their orders.
